Meet Ashley Weinberg Grebe
Ashley Weinberg Grebe is a passionate music educator and musician, known for creatively bridging the worlds of classical and folk music. Ashley holds a BM in Violin and Music Education from the DePaul University in her native Chicago, and her MM in String Pedagogy from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University in Israel. With over 15 years of professional experience, Ashley has directed orchestras and educated young musicians across the United States and internationally. As a teacher, she has held positions in elementary, middle, and high schools in Illinois, Israel, Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. As a violinist and violist, Ashley has taken the stage with dozens of orchestras in over 25 states and 10 countries.
Ashley runs a successful private studio, offering both in-person and virtual lessons to students of all ages from beginning to advanced levels. Her students have gone on to pursue successful musical careers of their own including touring with professional recording artists and performing with top collegiate and professional orchestras in the U.S. and abroad.
As a clinician, Ashley has worked with elementary to high school orchestras across the U.S., delivering highly engaging and participatory sessions on topics such as fiddle styles, pre-adjudication preparation, and improvisation. Additionally, she offers clinics for professional development of music educators across the country.
As a composer and arranger, she specializes in adapting traditional folk musics and eclectic styles to the educational string orchestra setting, aiming to broaden and diversify the string orchestra repertoire. Her pieces have been performed in the US and abroad.
In addition to her work in classical music, Ashley is also an accomplished fiddler, with a particular passion for Irish traditional music. She has studied and performed with top fiddlers including Liz Carroll, Martin Hayes, Brian Conway, and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh. Ashley served as Artistic Director of the renowned Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic for six successful seasons.
Ashley currently serves on the American String Teachers Association's national committee on Eclectic Styles, where she continues her work toward greater inclusivity and diversity in music education. She is also a member of the Association for Popular Music Education and National Association for Music Education.
She currently resides in Bethel Park outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband, conductor Rotem Weinberg, and their cat, Bambi. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, painting, crocheting, and gardening.
